The Lexile and Quantile Frameworks

The Lexile Framework for Reading and The Quantile Framework for Mathematics provide unique, supplemental metrics of reading and mathematics achievement. As the most widely adopted measure of reading ability in the U.S., more than 28 million Lexile measures are reported annually from classroom assessments, and the number of learners and materials with Lexile and Quantile measures continues to grow. Now, British teachers and parents can use these widely adopted metrics to measure and monitor a child’s performance in reading and mathematics.

The Lexile Framework measures both reader ability and text difficulty on a common, developmental scale. Similarly, the Quantile Framework uses a common scale to measure mathematics achievement and the difficulty of mathematical skills and problems. When an assessment is linked with the Lexile or Quantile Frameworks, children’s scores immediately become actionable. Teachers and parents use Lexile and Quantile measures to connect learners with targeted instructional and leisure-time materials that meet and challenge their unique abilities, interests and learning objectives.

Experts agree that the best way to strengthen achievement in reading and mathematics is practice. By taking the guesswork out of selecting ability-appropriate materials, Lexile and Quantile measures provide teachers, parents and children with powerful tools for making that practice meaningful all year round.

Lexile Measures Available from GL Assessment’s Progress in English
MetaMetrics has linked The Lexile Framework for Reading with GL Assessment’s Progress in English (PIE) tests, enabling children’s reading scores from PIE Online to be reported as a Lexile measure. The companies are also linking GL Assessment’s Progress in Maths (PIM) tests with The Quantile Framework for Mathematics and customising the PIE and PIM tests for an autumn 2008 release in the U.S. Read the press release.
